Filing a Bond

My obligee says I need an original bond. What does that mean?

This article explains what to do if your obligee requests an "original" bond.

Last updated on 30 Mar, 2022

The entity requiring you to get a bond is formally known as the bond's "obligee,"  which is also the entity you will file your official paperwork with.

Depending on your exact situation and obligee, the answer here could depend on a couple of factors.

  1. If we sent your official bond documentation to your email address without physical shipping, you need to print, sign, and file the document set with your obligee.

  2. If we physically issued and shipped your official bond documentation to your mailing address, you need to sign and file the physical document set with your obligee.

If you're confused by your obligee's request or instructions at this time, call 1 (800) 308-4358 or email customercare@suretybonds.com, and one of our friendly representatives will be happy to help.
